Use Cases
Asset Monitoring
A mix of Cicada’s and wired asset monitors have were deployed across a mix of powered machinery and non powered assets used within the farm.
In addition to the sensors geo-fenced ‘blocks’ were configured in the Binary Tech platform to enable detailed alerts and reporting.
The combination of the sensors and platform configuration provides visibility across all stages of production allowing the producer to:
- Track the timing and location of labor movements
- Manage Plant & equipment

Gate Monitoring
Cicada sensors were installed on gate posts at strategic locations across the property and configured to detect the presence of magnets that were attached to the swinging gates.
The sensors were configured to immediately upload a message upon change in presence of the gate magnets as well as checking in on a regular timer interval.
Outcomes from this implementation were:
- Checking the real-time open/closed status of critical gates on the farm
- Raising real-time alerts when gates were used outside of normal working hours
- Maintaining an audit of activity for the gates that were monitored
Binary Tech Cicada Pro is very similar to the Cicada but includes GPS functionality which allows for continued tracking in areas with little to no coverage.
The above image shows the blocks defined across the farm which are used for each geo-fence.
Harvest Monitoring
Cicada Pro sensors are being leveraged for tracking of consignments from farm to market.
The sensors are attached to consignments of harvest products in a rural QLD and used to monitor the consignments for location, temperature and movement. This type of monitoring provides farmers confidence that product is being treated correctly in transit.
Cicada Pro’s are currently being reviewed by a client for tracking of grape bins so specific varieties and vintages can be monitored for treatment and to ensure they are arriving at the required destination.
Above you can see a consignment being tracked from North QLD to Brisbane through areas of varied density and coverage.
